Thank you to all the AWEsome entrepreneurs who came out to the first meeting of the Vienna-Tysons Chapter at the brand new Vienna Community Center! It was so nice to get to know you all and share an evening talking about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.
At this kick off meeting, AWE Founders Karen Bate and Evelyn Powers spoke to the group about the story of AWE. Karen and Evelyn have been friends for years, and they both worked for themselves and found that entrepreneurship was a lonely road to walk alone. Together they reached out to their network of women entrepreneurs to found AWE.
As a fellow female entrepreneur, my story is much the same as Karen and Evelyn. I founded the Sarah R. Bagley Creative Network in 2010 after the birth of my first child. I left my traditional job to work for myself…but I wasn’t even sure what that meant. I had a blog, and at the time, social media platforms were just taking off. With a newborn on my lap, I taught myself how to code websites, create graphics, and learned the ins and outs of social media.
Since then I’ve expanded my business to include two podcasts, video, and I’m in the process of writing a book. I also offer marketing, social media, PR, and client experience services to local small business owners. I’m a Brand Ambassador for Athleta Tysons Corner. And, I teach group fitness classes. I like to keep my life full!
I’m also a wife, mother of three, and owner of a lab-golden mix. When I’m not working (which, as an entrepreneur feels like never – ha!), I love spending time with my family. Both my parents and my in-laws live close by, so I love being with my happy, big, loud family.
I can’t wait to meet more awesome women entrepreneurs!
